Title: Unexpected (Unexpected #1)

Author: Amity Cross

Genre: Erotic Romance

Release Date: February 1, 2014

Blair is looking for an escape.

West is looking for a connection.

One down and out woman. One isolated rock star. Life at the top is lonely, but so is life at the bottom.

Blair is just looking for someone to take the edge off her crappy life. Dull the pain, breathe a little life into her neglected body. A chance meeting at a bar leads to a night of passion. No names, no personal details. Just sex.
Well, it wasn’t personal until she sees the guy standing on a stage ten meters in front of her. How the hell didn’t she realize that the guy who blew her mind is the guitarist out of that dirty rock’n’roll band, Affliction? And why is he chasing her down the street? And how does he know her name?

Sometimes you find the things you didn’t even know you were looking for in the most unexpected places.

I think I might have given this book five stars if it had been longer, I was really enjoying it, it’s dirty but still has a story to it, but for me it just felt like it ended too soon. There is a kind of ending to it, so it’s not a cliffhanger, but it just leaves you feeling like there’s something missing.

I love West and Blair, but then don’t I always seem to love broken characters! I should say it’s too soon for them to want to be together, the 100 pages only just covers a week in time, but there’s definitely a connection between them. I love that they’re both Alpha characters, so when they’re together in bed it feels like they’re always fighting each other for control.

I really did enjoy the story, from the meeting, the first night and beyond.

There are loads of reasons why these two shouldn’t be together, but then as you go through the book you think sod it, why not.

There are some great scenes but I’d be spoiling it for you if I went into more detail, it’s too short a story to share moments. What I will say is that it’s a book about healing, hot sex and hurting. About being told what you can’t do and who you can’t be with, and about making your own mind up.

If you’re a fan of short books then you’ll love it, and if you’re not, well neither am I but I don’t regret reading it at all.

(4 Stars – Helen)
